A Recreational Fishing Officer patrols waterways to ensure that fishing vessels, gear, licences, and catches are complying with the law and regulatory requirements. They work outdoors and can be required to spend time away from home to conduct surveillance activities.

A Recreational Fishing Officer operates vehicles and vessels to patrol waterways and completes tasks such as: 

  • Conducting surveillance

  • Maintaining a good working relationship with the fishing industry 
  • Providing information on fishing licence requirements

Certificate IV in Fisheries Compliance. Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science). Note - Fisheries Officers require a driving and boating licence and in some cases a diving licence.

A relevant degree or qualification in fisheries science, marine science, or a related field and experience with fisheries management and regulations is required.
