What’s involved

An algae live feed technician uses algae husbandry techniques to grow and harvest algae for feeding oysters and marine fish for commercial production, they monitor water quality and temperature for optimum growing conditions.

An Algal Technician works out in the field as well as a laboratory to complete tasks such as:

  • Formulating live feed plans
  • Collecting samples
  • Analysing samples
  • Recording sample data
  • Monitoring water filtration systems
  • Monitoring water quality
  • Monitoring animal health and nutrition

A relevant degree or qualification in algal biology, aquaculture, or a related field is often required. Experience in algal culture and management is valuable.
