Nursery technicians (also known as fisheries technician) provide assistance with the growing of marine or freshwater animals. They assist with the breeding and farming of fish, prawns, crustaceans, oysters and other marine species.
How do they spend their day?
Working mainly outdoors, nursery technicians ensure the farming enterprise runs smoothly with tasks such as:
- Conducting water quality testing and analyzing results for improvement
- Using software to maintain accurate data collection
- Conducting health checks and providing treatments
- Monitoring feeding and nutrition
- Participating in live feeding
- Grading and weighing animals
- Lifting and cleaning nets
- Completing general maintenance
