Certificate IV in Maritime Operations (Master up to 45 metres Near Coastal)
This course will equip you with specialised skills and knowledge to be a Master on vessels up to 45 metres in length.
With this certificate you can command a vessel less than 45 metres near coastal. This certificate will allow you to work as:
- Master on commercial vessels up to 45 metres long within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)
- Master on vessels up to 100 metres long in inshore waters
- Chief mate or deck watchkeeper on vessels up to 100 metres long within the EEZ
- Undertake the duties and perform the functions of a General Purpose Hand NC

Wader Safety
This course is for people who use waders in the workplace and specifically addresses requirements being able to safely use waders in an aquatic environment.
Long Range Operators Certificate of Proficiency
For individuals required to hold a Long Range Radio Operators Certificate to operate marine VHF and MF-HF radios.
Recommended pre-course study using supplied materials. No formal prerequisites.
- Gain skills and knowledge to use the ships long range radio equipment
- Understand how to perform simple maintenance to keep the equipment in good state of repair
- Understand the operating procedures in times of distress and emergency
- Basic knowledge of the Australian Search and rescue system
Elements of Shipboard Safety (unit)
This course is for anyone wanting to work as a Near Coastal Coxswain, Master, Marine Engine Driver or, where stipulated, as a deckhand on a commercial coastal vessel.
AMSA requirement for working on commercial coastal vessels, covering personal safety, vessel safety, and crew safety.
Confidence working in water and swimming ability expected. No formal prerequisites.
Deck Machinery & Lifting Appliances
This course provides the basic skills and knowledge to operate deck machinery and lifting appliances that are commonly used on a typical fish farm vessel.

Marine Biologist
A Marine Biologist studies all forms of life in the ocean and conducts research to gain a greater understanding of their anatomy, physiology, behaviour and characteristics and the marine environments that sustain them. Research areas may include water quality, micro plastics, individual marine species and their habitat, the effects of dredging or how pollution affects marine life and organisms. These research and conservation efforts support the seafood industry and enhance our recreational fishing environments.
Fisheries Manager
A fisheries manager oversees and monitors the fisheries management plan for sustainable fishing in a designated area to ensure continued productivity and conservation for the future. They gather information and conduct research to make decisions on where fishing can take place, determine catch limits, and specify the vessels and gear that can be used.
Consulting and communicating with stakeholders to ensure compliance is an important part of the role. They also provide legislative, policy, and technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, promoting fisheries objectives regarding natural resource management.
Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management
This qualification will give you the skills and knowledge to oversee the conservation regulations for fish and wildlife.
