Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal)
This certificate will allow you to operate a vessel less than 12 metres long in inshore waters. The Coxswain grade 1 near coastal will allow you to command, and operate the engines of, a vessel less than 12 metres long with unlimited outboard engine propulsion, or inboard engines less than 500 kilowatts:
- In inshore waters (refer to National Standard for Commercial Vessels Part B—General requirements) or designated waters (under state or territory waterway management legislation)
- As a tender or auxiliary vessel within 3 nautical miles of a parent vessel within the exclusive economic zone
- Act as a chief mate or deck watchkeeper on a vessel <24m long in inshore waters
- You can also undertake the duties and perform the functions of a General Purpose Hand NC, Coxswain Grade 3 NC and Coxswain Grade 2 NC.

Certificate I in Maritime Operations (Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal)
This certificate of competency lets you Command and operate a vessel less than 12 metres in sheltered waters. This certificate will allow you to:
- Command and operate the engines of a vessel less than 12 metres long with unlimited outboard engine propulsion, or inboard engines less than 100 kilowatts
- In sheltered waters or within 5 nautical miles from the shore or an aquaculture lease
- As a tender or auxiliary vessel operating within 3 nautical miles of a parent vessel within the exclusive economic zone
- Undertake the duties and perform the functions of a Coxswain Grade 3 NC

Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 3 Near Coastal)
This certificate lets you act as chief engineer or second engineer on certain vessels. This certificate will allow you to work:
- as chief engineer on a vessel with an inboard engine with propulsion power up to 500 kilowatts within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)
- as chief engineer on a vessel with an outboard engine of unlimited propulsion power within the EEZ
- as second engineer on a vessel with an inboard engine with propulsion power up to 750 kilowatts within the EEZ
- as an assistant under the general supervision of the chief engineer within the EEZ
- in the engine room of a vessel with an inboard engine with propulsion power up to 3000 kilowatts within the EEZ

Certificate III in Maritime Operations (Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 Near Coastal)
This certificate lets you act as a chief engineer, or a second engineer on certain vessels. This certificate will allow you to work as:
- Chief engineer on vessels with inboard engines with propulsion power up to 750 kilowatts within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ)
- Chief or second engineer on a vessel with outboard engines with unlimited propulsion power within the EEZ
- Second engineer on vessels with inboard engines with propulsion power up to 1500 kilowatts within the EEZ
- An assistant under the general supervision of the chief engineer.In the engine room of a vessel with propulsion power up to 3000 kilowatts within the EEZ
