Safety short courses (AMSA recommended)
There’s a range of safety focused courses available throughout Australia - check out the recommended courses list published by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).
These courses cover the requirements before your are certified to operate or work onboard a sea going vessel.
Please note, AMSA is not a registered training organisation.
Training organisations that offer Certificate 1-4 in maritime operations can assist you with these basic competencies - AMSA provides information to contact these providers.
Sea Safe
Aimed at both employers and employees to assist them with on water hazard and risk management, it provides resources and information to assist with the development of a comprehensive workplace safety system.
This includes online module-based safety information for people working in fishing and aquaculture, including specific fisheries.
Sea Safe is transitioning SeSAFE training modules as part of a national safety campaign. Contact Seafood Industry Australia for more information and access.

Stay Afloat Australia is the national mental health program for the Australian seafood industry, run by Seafood Industry Australia (SIA) and supported by Australian Government Department of Health’s Mental Health Emergency Response funding.
